My gosling isn't eating very much

If I had to guess I'd say she's a week old.

Likely a canada goose, assuming you have them there. Hard to tell from the pic. I would try to get good pics because if she is you have a bit of a problem. There are ridiculous federal laws about having them as pets. Basically you can't. I've raised several and never discovered a loophole in these laws. I tried. They wouldn't even let me apply for a permit.

Then again if she's a Canada goose, she shouldn't have been left behind by her parents, they are very attentive generally. So there could be a problem with her health.

Earth worms ironically can give birds worms so that's usually a poor baby food choice. Does she follow you? If she does you might have to crawl around in the grass picking at it to get her interested. If that works scatter some crumble in the grass and pick at that too. Another baby would help, even a duckling.

Yes she does follow me i will try that out and yes i do think she is a canadian goose but i will have to figure that out. Anyway I will try that. And she had fallen in a sewer line with her brother my dad had found them while on the job.

I've heard the government was considering modifying their status. Would be nice if that happened and you could get a permit.

A friend is a must, good you're getting one. They bond hard and fly well obviously. Mine used to fly after my car. She ate the screens off my house trying to get to me. They are smart and devoted, but almost too much. I was warned while trying to get a permit that I'd be in major law violation if I clipped her wings. The fine was pretty big as I recall. I was forced to let her leave. I'm in the north and they usually fly away no matter how bonded. Instinct takes over.

I'm sorry but it's a tough situation.

Alright thankyou for the advice

I answered you on your other thread :) Not sure if you saw it because you didn't reply, but you need to get a proper feed for her, either a waterfowl starter, an all flock, or a chick starter that you can add niacin to. No worms; geese are herbivores, they don't eat worms or bugs. They eat grass. If you can take her out to eat grass, that would be good. Or bring some grass to her.

I also had advised you about the Canada goose aspect and how it's illegal for you to keep it; have you looked into wildlife rehabbers in your area as I suggested? Or can you say your location here so we can help you find one?

I also wouldn't be getting a companion for this gosling unless you're getting two, since you can't keep it and that would just put you in same boat of having a lonely gosling again once you get this one handed off to a rehabber.

As I said in the other thread, you can't just let her go when she's older either. She won't have learned the migration routes from her parents, so while she will leave, she won't find her way where she needs to go and she'll die. She really needs to go to a rehabber.

Pyxis is really right. As I said I had to let mine fly away. The resident geese nested here that year so they were lightly acquainted, giving me some hope that she survived.

But honestly that's a slim likelihood. That's grim and sad when I only wanted to help a helpless baby, same as you.

Now that you know how sweet geese are maybe you could get a few domestic day olds. They will love you just as much!
