my son was born 8 weeks premature at 4lbs 12 oz. He also had low blood sugar and needed very little intervention. My prayers are with your family and my advice is one day at a time. 8 years later my son has ADHD (common to preemies) and learning difficulties but is other wise healthy with the exception of well controlled epilepsy. I never thought I could handle a special needs child but now I dont know what I would do without him. All you can do is take it as it comes and enjoy the new little bundle in your life.

Ayden is doing awesome. he had to have a blood transfussion this evening with oxygenated blood. the nicu doc says he is doing great and may try to remove the tubes tomorrow. he is breathing more on his own than with the respirator(he was breathing on his own at birth-just had under developed lungs) and if all goes well he may be home in one month... so far no other problems have shown up. he has a temper. when he gets tired of being messed with he lets you know. and he moves his arms and legs alot. when we look thru the window all we can see is his hands and feet up in the air.. he is a fighter... the doctors say day 3 will tell how well he is gonna do..


Thank you for all your prayers. our family and Ayden appreciate them. I will try to post pics tomorrow. I am so tired right now I have only slept 3 hours since day before yesterday

Oh - I really feel for you:

I had three Premature babies

My eldest was 6 weeks Prem and a good weight so he didn;t need much special care but he hollered for the first 6 weeks of his life!!! As when he was born he was 6lb and 7 oz but was 23 inches long would you believe!!!!!!!!!!!!! He wouldn;t stop eating and yelling and was on sollids way before he should have been !!!!!!

Then we had our Twins - they were born at 26 weeks gustation.
Weight 3lb 4 and 3 lb 10. - We didn;t get them home for agess and I will never forget all the love and care the special care baby unit gave to us.

My eldest boy is now 25yrs old!!!!!!!! University grad and over 6 foot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My twins are 23 yrs old and doing really well

thank you. her baby doctor is awesome. my youngest daughter was a premie also. she was 6 weeks early. and weighed 6lbs 4 oz and was only 16 inches long. she was born with a strep infection but did well. the doctor treating my grandbaby is the one who treated my daughter when she was born. and the NICU nurses are wonderful. the loaned my daughter a book about preemies so sh e can read it while she is in the hospital . The explain everything to her really well.
The babys daddy is awesome. he cries for his baby everytime he sees him. I know he loves his baby so much. and he is taking great care of my daughter. Looks like my daughter wont be getting a new job for a very long time. I think she is planning to stay home with baby for atleast 6 months. and when she decides to go back to work I will be babysitting him(which i am so looking forward to...: ) .... we joked about him being our litle kung fu fighter because 2 weeks ago they did an ultrasound and he was doing karate moves. he was kickin the whole time dd was in labor.you could see him kick from across the room.

It is hard for parents to go to the special care unit. It is soooo good that they have so much love and support.
I know when DH and I went to see our twins I used to litterally heave from the car park until I saw their little pink bodies!
Even now Dh and I hate buzzers going off!!!!!!!!

Ayden will hopefully do well and this will all be a bad memory in a few months time. You will be a great baby minder!!!!!!!!!!!
I am at the moment caring for our first grandchild Jess who was born 2 weeks late!!!!!! There back in August!
