My guess is a soft shell egg?

Hi. I’m thinking this is the result of a soft shell egg (I have new layers) that most likely came from a newbie that has given me 2 double-yolked eggs so far. I know laying in the beginning can be wonky. I’ve done research and I don’t feel this matches a lash egg as from what I’ve read, lash eggs don’t necessarily contain actual egg material. I’ve also been watching the suspected hen and she’s roaming about with the others just fine...nothing to indicate an issue. Thoughts?

the right part looks like a shell-less egg, mostly consumed. But the left part is something else - almost looks like a partially developed chick :hmm
Wyorp Rock will know and come back to you no doubt.

Thank you for the photo. I'm curious like @chrissynemetz if you haven't disposed of it, cut it open.
Looks like layers of shell membrane. It's good that she was able to pass that. I would watch her for several days. Supply oyster shell free choice. I would cautiously mark it up as a glitch. If you see this again then I would give her extra calcium (1/2 tablet of Caltrate) for 3 days.

Do you still have this, or did you dispose of it?
Thank you for your help. I do still have it... I’m the curious type so I did want to poke at it but I jumped on here first.
This might sound like a really silly question, maybe, but wondered if its possible an egg can get squished inside if, say, my chicken loving child squeezed her too hard? The bird in question is the one handled most by my daughter because she doesn’t mind being held.

Cut it in half and take some more pics.

Doubtful.

Oh yeah cut it open and post some photos LOL

I don't think the handling would have anything to do with this.

Here's a great video that @aart turned me on to - it's very well done and gives a good understanding of the reproductive system.
