Has anyone ever eaten a guinea? .... because I'm seriously considering it!! My guinea has been making soooo much noise today!!

It's mainly just one out of the pack that's been going crazy. There hasn't been any change in....anything around the property. Really? Is this what I signed up for??

If I had to guess it would be a bird that is at a year or less old. Spring is the time of noise for the immature birds. Sometimes a young bird will get separated from its preferred hang out partners and raise cane until they find them again. Thing is, they can holler all they want. The group will ignore the screams until the screamer locates them on its own.

guineas can be SUPER annoying & loud birds...(our neighbors hate our guineas).

that's normal.

BUT, one of my female guineas has become particularly noisy also. I believe it is because she's looking for a nest---she walks around our entire property looking for quiet spots & such...but all my other guineas are pretty much normal...not sure

Robin you are right they are less than a year old. I sure hope he/she will grow out of it and settle down a bit.

Thing is, once they are old enough to stop being so noisy chances are you'll add new young birds and the cycle continues.

I would have forgotten about the separation anxiety thing if it hadn't happened here this weekend. We were sitting on the back porch drinking coffee really enjoying the nice weather. Then up comes a loan male, about eight months old just carrying on. My husband threatens to get one of the guns, I shoo him away where he flies up on the Silkie pens and continues his lamentations. I shooed him off that. Then low and behold he spots the group he's been screaming for, shuts up and hauls tail to rejoin them.

My female guineas have been making the "female only" call at night. All night. It doesn't matter what time I go outside from dark until I go to bed (sometimes 2 am) at least one of them out there talking. And since they should be ready to lay any time now, I keep them penned in the run until they get in the habit of using the next boxes but they are doing everything possible to get out during the day. Haven't succeded yet but they are pretty persistent. I'm guessing they will start laying annnnnyyyyy day now

Yep, I was watching one of my males Sunday. He was standing guard outside one of the wind rows, when I went to investigate his mate was busy building her nest.
