Just want to put a good word in for the eggs I received from Nancy of the Garry Farm. I left feedback after I received the eggs saying they all arrived safe and sound, but I thought a follow-up on how the hatch went would be something of use to the community.
I received the following:
4 Wheaten Marans eggs
3 Easter Egger eggs
4 Blue/Black/Splash Orpington eggs
3 Lavender Orpington eggs
I waited three days to set the eggs in the incubator. The following hatched:
4 Wheaten Marans
3 Easter Eggers
3 Blue/Black/Splash Orpingtons
2 Lavender Orpingtons!!!
The last thing to hatch was one Lavender Orpington. It had pipped and made a hole the size of a half dollar but somehow another egg shell got stuck over top of it like a cap. The other chicks were doing a lot of hopping and bopping and must have rolled its egg into the cast-off shell. I figured no chick, no matter how strong, could break through its own egg plus the dried out shell of another and given its progress through its own shell, it didn't have any underlying issues that would make me say "Well, if it doesn't make it there must be something wrong with it." I gave it a minor helping hand by pulling off the other shell and peeling back the membrane from its egg that had gotten cemented to the extra shell. It popped out and fluffed up overnight. I am very, very pleased to say the least!
