Our Homemade incubator hatched 2 chicks and they seem fine at 3 weeks old. I am going to partition a part of my Run for them to keep them seperated from my other chickens when they get 6 weeks old.

couple questions.

I didn't vaccinate them against Mereks, can this endanger my other chickens or is it just a threat to them?
When I add them to the run can I just feed them regular feed or do I need to continue to feed them starter feed?

Hello!

Sounds like things are going great for you. I personally give my chicks their starter/grower feed until they are 17 weeks old. That's because the extra calcium in the layer feed can be harmful to developing chicks.....

In regards to the marek's vaccine, I do have all my hatchery chicks I buy vaccinated, but I don't have it available for chicks I hatch. I think you probably don't need to worry since they were hatched and have always been with you....I imagine they could get it from a wild bird.......But chances are probably slim.

Good luck with your young'uns!
