Is this normal? Anyone else have a hatchery bird or a chicken meant for egg laying go broody?

I've had her for a little over a year. She's already been broody for a week and half so I'm not going to put eggs under her this time but if she does it again do you guys think I should put eggs under her?

I've had hatchery barred rocks and buff orps go broody. Not very much and they're not very persistent, but it does happen.

I had some battery hens and they went broody all the time. Were excellent mothers too

Sounds good! I'll have to see with this one though.
Oh and do hens go broody even when they've stopped laying? If so I might end up keeping my standard cochins and my silkies.

Broodiness is a hormonal thing, so is egg laying and reproduction. Personally, I can't see a non-laying hen go broody. But I hear Silkies are ridiculously broody creatures so keep them around and see. You never know.
