Just as bad? Tell me it isn't so.
No more coops.... When I fill my 145 square foot coop, I'm done.... Too expensive to have more, but I can sell a few.

Oh great... Cat jumped on my keyboard again..... No kitty, the double laced barnevelder eggs are too expensive... 250$ is not pocket change.... Scuse me a sec, gotta lock this cat up before I go into debt.

Good morning Patience . AW but I'm afraid it is so very much so . You start out very simple. Can't find a rooster I like or no one has that breed . No problem I'll hatch one got the old wash tub Incubator that came with the farm equipment I brought years ago . How hard can it be after all a chicken can do it. Then the online search for hatching eggs and the discovery that
ep.gif
chickens lay that color eggs . I want some of those chickens order me some of those please what they didn't come in to late in the season . But I have to have that chicken . online search again what fifty dollars each . Oh hell no I'll hatch some. HOW hard can it be after all a chicken can do it !!!!!!! On line search for hatching eggs . They cost HOW MUCH $4 EACH !!!!!!!!! old bath tub works all messed up from years of sitting . I'll buy new only a $100 what the heck buy two . order eggs . win the bid on ebay 16 eggs $25 can live with that SLWs hatch five all die but one nice Rooster worth it . two dozen BCMs $15 a dozen add shipping $50 hatch one. nice Rooster no hens just rooster .hatch more then you realize that you can't wait for that first pip and glued to the Incubator for the zip and hatch . and then you hatch more and more and more . before you know your hatching every weekend . and the feed bill goes up and up and the need for room for chickens is pressing you. more space you must have more space one more hatch and I'll quit just one more . well how many do you have

As long as I can actually get em to hatch instead of wasting eggs, I don't mind being slightly hatch-crazy.

Not the worst thing to be addicted to, I guess.... One thing I gotta get over though is naming every single one of my chickens... Every chicken that looks even slightly different has a name, and the identical ones have a group name.... And I can't do that if I hatch a lot... Tough thing is that's how I got started keeping chickens, so it's a hard habit to break. And because of that, none of my chickens get eaten, because you wouldn't eat the dog, right?

Anyways, I'm OK with being crazy.... Long as I end up with healthy chickens.
Hardest part is healthy chickens, but I learned my lesson, no more adult chickens come in without extensive quarantine.

I might eat the dog if I was hungry enough . you cannot let chicken disease scare you. It can come in with wild birds. even if a chicken has had disease and carries the antibodies it will test positive for that disease . they can be carried in on clothing . soiled boots and worse dust blown in from the farm next door on the wind . To say that they got it with the chickens from crags list or off the side of the road my not be true. I would rather have chickens that have survived a virus than ones that have never been exposed to one . you will lose some no doubt but the ones that survive will be much stronger for it . problem some chickens are carriers of the disease and spread it while others are immune to it picking which one any body's guess

Absolutely agree. I'm just taking simple precautions to ensure I don't get my birds wiped out.

@BantyChooks do you have a freecycle.org where you are? You can give stuff away and also let people know what you want. I can't believe it, but I posted that I was looking for a large cooler and I got an email the yesterday. I am picking it up tomorrow morning.

The only people who see the posts are other freecycle members. I just gave away some packing boxes and crumpled packing paper.

If you Google it you will find the main site and see if they have a group in your area.

That may be so, but I'm not planning on testing that theory anytime soon!

I don't know might

most of the time by the time you realize your bird is sick it can't be saved no matter how hard you try . frustrating to say the least . I have tried everything . saved some lost some . that is one reason I hatch so many . when they are your pets you stand a better chance of getting them well but in large flocks it is harder to spot something wrong . eggs to gather and water to fill
