Soooo, I read a lot of stuff which made very little sense to me, but I did see some chicks so it was worth it. Lol
What time of year do you hatch them? It's autumn now, so are you going to wait until spring/summer?

Yes, I am. I hatch thru spring/summer when I can kick the chicks out of my house by 3 weeks old. No can do in the middle of winter...
