My heart is broke...that stupid *** bear UPDATE!!!! Problem gone!

Did you see the news about the German lady who tried to go swimming with the polar bears in a zoo? They must have thought she was a seal because they bit her several times before she could be rescued.

You said that better than I could have. People need to realize that the only thing that succsefully controls overpopulation is hunting. People think it is fun to feed bears but when somebody gets mauled they all wonder why.

Sorry for the loss of your birds.

I read the first page and the last page of this thread, so I dont know if this has been said, yet. I dont know how New Jersey laws work, but in NC, if you can catch that bear in your coop killing your chickens, you have a legal right to kill that bear to protect your property. The same can be said of your neighbors dog or cat, and in some states the My Castel laws will even allow you to shoot a two legged varmit that is indangering your life or your property.

You forgot to look I live in bear country. We have had people killed by bear here so seeing bears is not new for me. I would do whatever i needed to do to protect my family as anyone would but to go out and hunt them no. To the one that brought up the bible please read also the part that until man repeat man sinned the bear ate grass. There was no predators So man is at fault for it all.

So, if you don't want to loose any of your animals to the wild predators, how would you protect them from the bears? And why shouldn't others be able to have good stewardship over their animals and protect them from the bears? Nobody has suggested hunting them to extinction, just hunting them down to numbers that the habitat can support. And as far as the royal pedestal, just remember that it was God that gave humans dominion over animals and put us above them on that pedestal.

I'm really glad that you would do whatever was needed to protect your family, but what if the need was getting rid of the nearby hungry bear family that was going to eat your kids or pets. Maybe you could stand in the yard and throw rocks at them or just talk them into leaving. Remember, humans are also predators. God gave us instincts too. Those instincts tell us to protect our family and possessions from large predatory animals that are wandering into our yard. And we are at the top of the food chain.

Yes, humans have over populated and irresponsibly taken over animal habitat. Would you suggest that we thin the human population. You can't really do that without killing people or stopping reproduction. Who will be first? Who will be culled? Who will be restricted from reproducing? Will you volunteer your family? Perhaps we should start knocking down homes and other buildings to make room for more habitat. After all, bears were here before any people or buildings. Will you volunteer your home first? Maybe the building you work in? Maybe your school? You make the sacrifice first.

It's nice to altruistic and want humans and animals to live in perfect harmony, but that's not always realistic. Bears are a serious threat. I for one would not sacrifice my family's safety and let them roam my neighborhood just because they were here before my house was built 100 years ago. And it is just wrong to expect others to sit idly by in the face of such a threat. JMHO

A bear or two will travel on my property daily. They are more than welcome to do so, but when they get to close to my critters they are no longer welcome. Do they know where that line is? No, but my two good friends do and they speak form a distance. Mr. Smith & Mr. Wesson speak loud and true. That goes for any other predator want a free meal.

I am so very sorry. A similar incident happened to us years ago, only it was a raccoon and my daughter's pet Homing Pigeons.

It was awful. And this sounds even worse.

Move to West Virginia. There are parts of the state where there are bears, but I have a friend who has hounds who can run them off.

I have never seen a bear where we live.
