My muscovy hens do the fly bys and are full of themselves too! They fly on our roof and are pooping everywhere. My husband is so angry, he has threatened to cut their wings. I warned him not to because of predators, namely the dogs that roam the neighborhood. There aren't ANY LEASH LAWS HERE! CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS???? Why must I wait until something tragic happens before I can call Animal Control or shoot the predator/dog? I would never kill someone's pet. No matter how many chickens or ducks they had attacked. I would shoot toward it or swing my poultry net or shovel near it. But not to cause serious injury.
I have had 2 black dogs wander into my yard four times in the last week, and another visit from a dalmation. Animal Control was called, but they never physically responded, only returned the call. Well, I went to the Dr. today and when I came home, my favorite muscovy girl, the white one with the blue eyes was dead with her chest ripped open. It was horrible, it looked like a scene from Alien. My other ducks were cowering in their little pen, which they HATE going into before bedtime. darn dogs!
I'm devastated, just devastated. People don't realize, it's like losing a child. Well, people outside of BYC.
I'm sorry for your girl. I feel your loss. Hopefully, she's just checking out the countryside and will return soon.
