my hen barks

One of our chickens does this. To me, it sound like she has the hiccups:). She is a year and a half old. I think in my case she eats too fast or something because it seems she soes it after she has wolfed down alot of food. Take care

HAHA, my blue cochin started honking at 12 weeks, and now she has a sort of honk/squeak.

Could the honk be the beginning of voice changes that happen right before laying?

I'm hoping. I've noticed the ones that honk, are the ones w/ the biggest & reddest combs. Though funny that they are the smallest. Wonder if they'll be the first to lay??

yeah mine are doing something similar started about two weeks ago, so that would put them around 20 wks. at first I thought something was wrong, but it was my barred rock 'slippy' she is HUGE and her cluck or whatever you want to call it is ferocious

.... never know maybe slippy is a bird dog too lol, sorry couldn't resist that.

Okay, I sure am happy others are noticing the same thing I am... thought for a while we had a bunch of geese! My red sex links also "wheeze" long and drawn out when I go out to the run. They start as soon as they see me coming across the yard. They're all around 16 - 18 weeks old. The other day when a bobcat came nosing around the run (fully fenced all around & on top) they all went on alert with necks stretched up and standing on tip-toes in a tight group and the rooster started honking to beat the band. They cluck, coo, honk, wheeze, and everything in between. Who knew?
