If no blood is being drawn, I'd leave them be. 17 weeks is very young but the cockerel is still a threat to her authority. He will put her in her place in a few weeks. In the meantime, please make sure that your younger birds are getting plenty of food and water.
Hi @kz_soupz19 as you can see, everyone has their own way of handling situations like this. Personally, I'd be looking for a new home for the cockerel but that's just me. Good luck to you!
Hello, and welcome to BYC. I'd allow them to resolve things now rather than later when he is larger and stronger. Upon occasion dominant hens are eventually killed by a cockerel/rooster.
I've had rooster issues in the past, the worst was when one killed one hen and nearly killed another. Needless to say, that one is pushing up daisies in the woods. Others, we just let them work it out. I have 8 roosters living in my older coop right now, who all get along and free range together. They didn't always though.
