I fed my chickens frozen fruits and veggies when it was really hot here. You can also make a cold water bath for them to stand in. I just used an old square Tupperware container. I made sure the sides were short enough for them to just walk right through. I also sprayed down there run a couple times to cool the dirt down.

Is your coop properly ventilated? She could've had a minor respiratory infection that may have been exasperated by the heat.

Well I have one window on the west side but that's all. I have been asking my husband to help me cut some more ventilation holes but he hasn't helped me yet. I really wish he would I have been worried about it.

I'm so sorry too. Chickens can really suffer in the heat. It can be hard to say why she died, sometimes they pass despite anything we do. Stick your head in the coop and see if it feels hot. Hopefully your husband will now help you cut some more openings. Sorry again.

I'm sorry to vent on here but I'm so worried about my other hens. I'm sure that's what has happened to my Sadie.

You can get a round hole bit for cutting out the opening in a door for a doorknob. It can be fairly easy to use a rechargeable drill and cut some holes along the top, otherwise you might need a bigger window type opening. I guess if he won't help I would try to do what you can. Lots of women on this site do their own carpentry. Sometimes it's better just to do it yourself. You vent all you want, I totally understand.

Yes that's what I need to do. I have a power drill and I'll find a bit that drills big holes. Thank you for the help. I can do this!!

I am in the same boat. My goal is to get some extra holes cut out before winter and my husband doesn't get why the extra ventilation is necessary.

Looks like I will be doing it myself.
