my hen broods alone

Can anyone tell me why my Silkie Hen is brooding on nothing?She acts like shes brooding,will not get up,except to eat now and then,but there are no eggs under her,and she hasn't laid in a week.

Silkies like to be broody. It's in their genes. You can't stop them! They will brood on rocks, eggs or air (or even a kitten!).

Thanks.I've been taking her eggs for 2 months and now she doesn't lay,she wants to brood.

Be sure you check her weight compared to the others. If she is 'going light' you may have to develop a plan to keep her healthy. I had one like that and it took a couple of weeks of early egg collecting and high protein to get her back in shape, and we don't even have a rooster!
