My hen has sour crop. Please help! Getting desperate.

Thanks for the reply. I also read that thread(about Monistat) and did some research on where I could find it but no trace. I was also going to use it as a last resort. The **** kefir was supposed to arrive toady but it didn't arrive. Anyway, maybe it's just my imagination or she might actually be improving. Her comb had started going black at the back which usually is a sign of ill health but has gradually returned back to it's normal colour. She appears a bit more active and doesn't sit around too much. I've been allowing her to eat small amounts of layers mash (because she doesn't eat too much any way) and syringing yoghurt down her throat straight after and massaging the whole lot in her crop. When I come back from school her crop is empty so I'm really happy she doesn't also have impacted crop.
I'm glad she's feeling better. =)

My hen Greta has improved from earlier this week, but I did break down and go to the vet yesterday for some medications. They gave me Regian (Metoclopromide) to give her twice orally (0.90cc) for helping her food pass in system (crop > stomach>out) and Metronidazole (1/4 of 250mg tab/daily) for any microrganisms which may have developed or are present. The two med's I mention cost $25/each however the visit alone was over $50!
She may have recovered fine without the med's but it is interesting to note that as soon as she received the meds and I got home from the vet - she went immediately to the food bowl. She didn't eat allot at first but obviously she was feeling better - she hadn't even attempted to eat for four days prior. By this morning her crop was nearly normal and she was eating almost normally - I'm continuing with her meds of course but it was a bit surprising to see how quickly she started recovering once adminstered. She is one tough hen, she lost her eye last year to a raccoon and she still doesn't take any grief from my 15lb male cat!
Thanks to all on this forum who help by giving out advice and information, this is my first place to look when I have a problem with my baby! :)

Whoohoo! She's better! After a week and a half of nerious waiting, she has finally recovered! I could tell before I even saw her! Recently, only one chicken has been calling in the morning rather than two until this morning! I heard both calling so I jumped out of bed and ran for the coop. Sure enough, she followed every body out of the coop and ran straight to the fertiliser bin, a habit she does when not sick. She's been clucking and waggling her tail all morning as well as scratching around. For safe measures I finally gave her some kefir milk this morning. I'm so proud of my self, I just can't stop smiling. I've got a German asignment due at school today however which I haven't 100% completed. Oh well. Enjoy Halloween!
