My hen has spurs!!

I just noticed one of my australorp hens has inch long spurs!! I know they can grow them but dang!!

I have a brown leghorn with the same thing!

My RIR hen also has them. They are no problem. If there is an issue, then the sharp tips can be dulled/sanded gently.

I just noticed one of my australorp hens has inch long spurs!! I know they can grow them but dang!!

My 4 year old Golden Comet has spurs. Here she is last August.

Last May.

The spurs are longer now. I need to take a recent pic.
To top it off, yesterday she crowed 3 times.
I was in the bathroom and heard a strange sound, then another. I looked out the window and saw her crowing. Amazing. It wasn't very good, it sounded muffled, like a rooster wearing a collar.
She made the moves like a rooster crowing.
I went out there with my phone and told her to crow, no dice. GC

I just got a Polish hen with some spurs starting, just under a year old, a few days ago. As soon as we got her home she squat down and an egg shot out... In the middle of the yard

My head hen also grew spurs all of a sudden when we added chicks. One recently broke off entirely. I'm curious if the remaining spur will grow longer if we add more chicks...

Here's a picture of Racer and her spurs. They're quite impressive. In the second picture you can see how far it sticks out just above the bottom flat side of the hole in the chicken wire. She also has quite a magnificent comb. Visitors (back when we had visitors...remember those days?) always think she's a rooster.
