The little brats are doing quite well, actually. They just had a growth spurt and gained about an inch in bulk. Unfortunately that means they play fight with each other now, and yesterday I had to untangle them several times when they were trying to outmaneuver each other. It's weird, they put their beaks in each others beaks and kind of get locked there and then push each other.
About 2 weeks ago, I started letting them free-range all day. they love it, but the other big turkeys (6 months) have been ganging up on them, so now their momma takes them out to the pasture right away and doesn't try to integrate (yet) with the flock.
They are so used to me feeding them, that they follow me around the lawn, sometimes flying, like cute little snowflakes. I'll turn around and see a cloud of little flying turkeys turning this way and that with every move I make. It's a one-of-a-kind experience! Momma has decided she doesn't like the pen and would rather roost 15 feet up in the corn crib rafters, so I've been letting them do that since they're safe from predators up there.
Here's a pic of them from a cold night when momma was trying to let all of them get under her wings. They're too big though and they're popping out all over the place. It's soooo funny. She looks calm in the pic, but in reality, she kept shuffling to try to cover all of them and I swear she had a "worried turkey" expression on her face. (this was their night-time pen -- they grew out of it already!).
