One of my 10 week old buff orpingtons was nestled in the grass, and my (also 10 week old) rhode island red tried to get on top of her from behind. the rir does have more prominent comb and wattles than my other rir.
I've read where a hen will take on the role of rooster if there isn't a rooster present in the flock.
But, I haven't found anything about them trying to get onto the backs of other hens (as if to mate).
Also, isn't 10 weeks too young to start trying this?
It seems to me that I definitely have a cockrel in my bunch, but could I be wrong.
Any opinions or thoughts on this will be very much appreciated, thanks.
