A few more glitches in the process. It is now 24 days since Matilda got her eggs, and it's looking bleak.
A few days ago I noticed her off the nest again and acting agitated.
Went in for a look and the box was tipped on its' side, eggs tumbled out.
At least one egg was broken and bloodied. Then I noticed that Matilda had a bloodied comb with a chunk missing.
I checked around the pen and found what looks like weasel or mink poo near the water.
I guess it must have squeezed in somewhere.
So I don't know how long Matilda had been off the eggs.
Had they cooled too much?
She is still guarding her eggs and hasn't given up yet so I'll just have to wait her out and see what happens.
I talked to my BIL and he has it marked on his calendar as the 3rd. of May that she started setting, so
I guess there's more hope now.
