My Hen is CROWING!!!

I was reading it and I have to admit that I got in a little snicker myself, but for a different reason.

I have been trying to build up my little silkie flock and a guy that works with me gave me a red silkie rooster. Well, he did not have the time to extend his wife's chicken coop and run to make room for her silkies. His wife told him that she would just sell the other 4 that she had and if I wanted them, I could buy them for $30.00. He told me that it was a white rooster and 3 black hens. Well, I picked them up last Friday morning and he mentioned that the smallest one was not yet a year old, that it could be a rooster, but he was pretty sure it was a hen as were the other 2 "black"ones.

I did not really pay much attention as I was quite in a hurry to get them home and in a holding pen with feed and water. After putting them in a pen, and looking them over, I am thinking to myself that at least one of the others looks to be a rooster, but he should know what he had, right?

I went up the hill to the coops and runs to take care of my little gang and several of the roosters started to crow. Down the hill I heard the new rooster crowing and I smiled to myself as I walked back down to take a look at this big boy crowing. Well, the black hen was doing the crowing!!

Later the next evening when we setted the new ones into the new coop/run, the other "black one" (really a blue, he called them all black) started to crow too!

So my 1 rooster and 3 hens turned into 3 roosters and 1 hen within 24 hours!!!

The guy that I got them from was surprised and so was his wife. You are not the only one to get it wrong!!!
