I have a dilemma this evening. I was out in the chicken lot ad my hens and roosters (I have two roosters) anyway one of my hens was just acting guarded and sounded like she was whining some so I picked her up and she acted as if I hurt her. Sat her down on the back of the coop and noticed under her right wing the skin was gone literally gone. Appears to be a lot of dirt in there too. It was after 7 pm here and only place I knew of open was tractor supply. The lady was nice, got poultry cleaner antibacterial and antifungal wound cleaner and another man shopping heard me and said "I use this purple spray on my birds and horses it was a cleaner and had something in to help numb the area. Other than wining she has still laid every day but did notice she was staying away from the others today as much as possible. I have her in the shop in a large box big enough to put a roost bar in to sleep on and put her some hay in a corner for her to lay eggs tomorrow if she does. I sprayed it good with the purple spray then coated it with the poultry wound cleanser but was unable to get all the dirt out of the wound. Seriously the skin is gone under her wing and wound is almost the same size as her wing. My first injury with my chickens. Do you have any suggestions I can do. Plan on boiling some water tomorrow and using a large syringe to irrigate with the sterile water I believe it may be from one of my roosters. I have one a little younger than the head rooster and he is rough with them mating. He also chases the girls until they can not run anymore. I hat to say it but I may have to find him a home. He is beautiful easter egger but I can't have my ladies hurt like this. Gonna give each one a good looking over in the morning. I may have to bring several into the medical ward. Any advice on cleaning treating my hen and how to tame my rooster would be appreciated!! I may end up trying to find him a new home.
