I'm a new chicken owner and one of my girls is rapidly losing feathers from her rear end. I'm finding them where she sleeps and where she rolls around in the grass mostly. Other than that she has no other symtoms. We do have several feral roosters around. Could this possibly be from vigorous mating? I have not seen any of my hens beating up on her. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Jill

She's probably either moulting or has lice. Check the base of the feathers for a gray squishy (like foam) substance, these are the egg sacs if it's lice. If it's on her "rear end" it's not from mating. Feather loss from mating is on their backs just before their tail.
