:he I'm confused, my hubby & our neighbors say to take away her egg or eggs, "it's too soon for hatching."
I was thinking I'd wait and see what she does in the next few days, then chuck the eggs if I don't see temps rising.

ANYONE HAVE SOME EXPERIENCE AND ADVICE?

sATURDAY AFTERNOON: hen was sitting as low as she could hunker, actuall groweled at me! Sh did sip a few drops of water. I decided to grab her and put her in the outdoor coop. There were NO EGGS! She must be one confused lil' hen, or she's wanting to be a mom so very bad, she's having phantom broodiness? Is there such a thing in hens?

She's munching the feed & scratching in the straw as usual with her roo out in the coop now. She looks normal.

It is cold here in Nebraska too, in fact it is snowing. My little bantam has been sitting on 10 eggs for three weeks, and today is Hatch Day!!! (I hope, I hope)...
She picked the nesting box under a heat lamp I set up when the temps dropped below 0 last month. So I went ahead and left the heat lamp and she seems content. I figured we'd give it a try and see what happens, the eggs won't hatch if they got too cold. Suzie seems healthy and happy to sit there, but if they haven't hatched in the next couple of days, I'll remove the eggs and let her start over.

As for the chicks if they do hatch, I'll be keeping a very close eye on them. I'm prepared to move Suzie and hatchlings into a large plastic tote and bring them all in the house if it is too cold for them. We brooded Suzie this way when she was a baby.

I will let you know how it turns out if you would like!

I have an EE that is on her 3rd day setting. She is in a simple little coop with no heat with Just hay and her cozy nest inside a box. It is a draft free coop though. it's still snowing here and still under freezing temps. I feel confident that she'll be just fine. I figure she wouldn't have done it if she didn't think she could. This isn't her first rodeo so she must know what she's doing.

If you don't mind letting her have babies, then let her go for it!!
