Tylan is only good for bacterial and mycoplasma infections, and for prevention of secondary bacterial infections when there is a virus or fungal infection. Viruses will have to run their course, but secondary infections can kill.Testing a sick or a necropsy on a dead bird is the only way to diagnose what disease you are dealing with. No chronic respiratory diseases are cured, since they can come back again and chickens can be carriers for life. Those chronic diseases are MG, coryza, and ILT. Here is a good link to read:Some people say that respitory infections cannot be cured with Tylan...but maybe give it a try, I've never really dealt with this problem.
Oh no offense taken. This is just information that is available in many articles about respiratory diseases. Just thought I would clarify the reason for using Tylan, oxytetracycline, Gallimycin, and other antibiotics in treating respiratory disease. Many who have Baytril or enrofloxacin prefer that to treat, but since it is not approved for chickens and difficult to get, the other drugs may be found in feed stores. In most foreign countries, they cannot get any of those drugs ecept from a vet. It won't be long before the US bans antibiotics for sale in feed stores, I figure.@Eggcessive, thank you for the clarification! I never knew this. Very informative! I didn't mean to bring you or your remedies down, I really hope the Tylan helps! I should probably order some now...lol
