Alright...
So, when my chicken got eaten, I got my new 6-month-old hen the same day. The only reason I did that is because 1. they couldn't keep the hen on hold, and 2. I wanted Hazel to have a buddy ASAP!
There is one problem. Lately, Hope, my new 6-month-old hen is laying on top of Hazel, my 4-5-month-old hen. Simulating that Hazel is submitting to Hope, I don't want that. I don't want that because Hazel was owned by me since she was about 5 days old, and Hope I've had for about 2 weeks and 4 days. I know that Hazel is submitting because she is older (and completely insane I call her mentally ill), but Hazel has the right to be BETTER then Hope.
So, here's a question. Should I separate them? Would it help to tell Hope that she should NOT be doing that?
I know I will most likely get hate from this, with people saying its normal and you have to deal with it, but I can try, right? and I can do whatever I want with my chickens, their mine!
Anyway, would that be possible? Please read this all because people have proved to me that they have NOT read all of it, and jump to conclusions.

Hens will usually move up in the pecking order when they reach point of lay. Hazel could end up as top chicken in a month or two. I don't know if separating them would have the desired effect but if you wait the problem might sort itself out.

If they aren't fighting, you're lucky and really should let them have their chicken time no matter what they want to do with it. I'm not being mean, please don't take it that way but when it comes to two chickens bonding as a flock even if bonding is submitting it doesn't matter what you want. Don't seperate just learn about how chicken society functions and i think you'll be very happy at just how well your girls are actually doing. :)

What exactly is happening?
Are they fighting?
Does Hope lay on Hazel for an extended amount of time or just momentarily?
Does Hope peck Hazel to an extent that Hazel can't get away or is bloodied?
Chickens mount and submit as part of the pecking order,
it's how their world works and they don't mind.

but Hazel has the right to be BETTER then Hope.
'Better' has nothing to do with it, that's a human attribute, and best not projected onto chickens if you really want to understand their behaviors.

It's 'hate' to honestly answer a question? That's pretty strong. Yes, you can do what ever you want with your chickens, but it might not help the situation.

I agree.
And I know exactly how you feel!!! I would feel the same way!! I get upset when there is alot of hard pecking going on (and normal Chicken behavior). If they are not fighting, I would personally just watch them.
I recently brought in a new chick (now 6 weeks old in with my 8 week olds) and he has gone around for 2 weeks trying to be the big man on campus. I have tried to sell him and wanted to snap his neck a few times. Now he is being put in his place. That is why I am saying just watch it they are getting along for the most part. But you do what you feel is best for your flock.

I think by hate, she means that some people won't ONLY give their opinion, but judge and mock hers. It's happened to me before (not on BYC, luckily :lau:gig).
Right, @H&Hchickens ?

Great! Hopefully :)
