My hen is very quiet and her wings are drooping...

An excellent precautionary measure is to supplement their food with Probiotics. This powder is available in most Feed Stores. I buy mine at Tractor Supply.

Probiotics are an excellent supplement that helps ward off a plethera of diseases in poultry. The cultures in yogurt are also a super additive.

Also, the Red Cell supplement is WONDERFUL for all hens--even the light egg layers. It might be $20-$24 a gallon BUT it lasts a long, long time.

Thank you everyone for being so supportive. It is true, before I had chickens I had no idea that they had personalities and were so lovable. I have always loved all animals, but you always bond so deeply with animals that talk and react to you. I am so scared that if it is Merricks, the other 14 will die.

I too am sorry to have read that she passed. What a tragic thing, but there is a reason. If you truly question Merreks disease, then perhaps a email or call to your state Vet or look up a university that has the ability to run these tests. Some illness' can be detected through blood.

Sorry about Ellie

It is always sad to lose an animal we love:(

That is what I thought. But the vet said that it looks kike she is not digesting from her crop properly. She is not aborbing her nutrients because she is so thin. I feel guilty for not noticing but it is so hard to tell with birds because they have so many feathers.
Try spraying her pellets wiv a little olive oil. Might help to get Watever is in the crop to move. Hope she's OK.
