My hen just turned to a hen three days ago because that was when it laid it's very first egg of its lifetime. It just laid it's second egg today in the morning. It was hard and not soft and feels like rubber like what it felt as the first egg as. We just started to give the chickens oyster shells yesterday and it worked so quick. The other two chickens haven't laid an egg yet, but they are eating the oyster shells, so they should be laying eggs soon by August 30. August 30 is the last day of August. I will keep you updated on when my hen will lay its third egg and when the other two hens lay their first egg. I think the other two hens will lay their first egg as a hard egg because they are already eating oyster shells. We will eat our hen's second egg soon though. Bye!!!!! The hen is only 20 weeks and laying eggs, so early!:(:(:(

Post us some pix of your girls.. 20 weeks is about right for some to start laying. Many don't start laying until 24 weeks or more. Varies with breed. You providing your girls oyster shells is a good move. Provides calcium as well as grit. As a side note. Young female chicks are referred to as pullets, until they start laying eggs. I am saying this only so when you read posts, and you see """ pullets "" you know they are talking about young chickens.
WISHING YOU BEST AND

A pullet won't be a hen until she's one year old.
18 -24 weeks is the normal age for onset of lay in most breeds.
Rubber and thin shelled eggs are not uncommon for the first months or so of laying.
