Yes I am SURE she is a hen. She has been laying since last summer. A little background, I started with 2 easter eggers, 2 comets, and 6 silkies. All of them were hens except one rooster. Classic silkie look and size. 3 our of the six silkies sadly got taken by hawks which leave the 4 big girls, 2 silkie hens and a rooster. Both silkies have been laying since summer. My big chickens free range and are able to jump the 4 foot chain link fence so they usually go to the barn to hangout next door coming back throughout the day. The 3 silkies of course can not get over the fence so they hang out in the backyard all day. 1 silkie hen is constantly broody no matter what i do and comes out of the coop just to eat and drink and back in she goes, even if i keep removing the eggs daily. That leaves the rooster and 1 silkie hen that hang out together in the yard. I started noticing before dawn and early morning whenever the rooster crows so does his female partner. But only in the morning and usually right after he does. Is this normal? Is there a way to discourage it at all? It does not seem to bother the rooster at all either. Again i am 100% positive she is a hen. Thanks guys!
