My little dutch bantam hen, had just started laying and turned broody!!! She was almost 6 months old. She sat the full 3 weeks and now has 3 lovely chicks! I just can't seem to find anything on a hen going broody so young? Anyone any ideas why?

Perhaps her hormone levels are a bit high or kicked in earlier than the norm causing her to go broody so soon

I have a little bantam hen that I got fairly recently and she looks pretty young (judging by her comb and wattle). She went broody and hatched three chicks. So I don't think it is too uncommon....

I currently have an australorp broody for the second time. She won't be a year old until the end of October. She raised five babies two months ago, and wants some more!

I have a bantam hen I call "Moma Bird" because she took on and raised 3 chicks when she was only three months old. She was the only survivor of a batch of chicks that the neighbor's dog got, so i got three chicks from the feed store to keep her company, but she adopted them. I thought that was crazy, she was not even old enough to cluck, so she would cheep at them. This is "Moma Bird" and her babies now.
