My hen whole head goes in the water when drink, is this normal,

The reason I have a bucket he can dunk his head in is because it's about the only way to keep the water thawed. A water bottle or similar would not stay liquid in our temps even with the heat lamp. My bucket froze solid even with a heat lamp right over it when the surge protector got flipped off so the bucket heater wasn't running. Maybe by next winter I will have a metal waterer and base heater.
 
I have one rooster that does that. He likes to swish his wattles in the water, dig extra deep with his beak, and sometimes even dunk his comb. He does it in all kinds of weather, but I live in So Cal, so it is not going to get him frostbitten, so I don't worry about it.

The walmart here doesn't sell them, I have checked. We live on the West Coast of BC and I guess its assumed we don't get cold enough here. We do, it goes below freezing. I used a 4 liter ice cream pail for the aquarium heater. I think its on it way out.
