My hen will not walk! PLEASE HELP!

Hopefully it is an injury and can be fixed.
If you have access to a vet that can perform an xray, that would be even better.

Most avian skeletal systems are similar, so splinting/treating fractures and breaks have the same basic concept. Here's the information that I have for that - others may have better information. Keep us posted.

Thank you Wyorp! Very helpful information. And even with living in Kansas, the vets I have spoke with so far do not much deal with chickens. I'm still checking. I am hoping it will end up healing up okay. In the meantime I am still reaching out for local resources and doing everything I can to help Claire get better.

This happened to one of my first hens. One day her legs just went limp but she would eat and drink if I put it near her. I separated her from the rest of the girls and I fed her (human) Infant Trivisol vitamins with the dropper, gave her plain yogurt with meal worms, and added electrolytes to her water. After a few days of doing this she started getting the strength back into her legs and at the end of the week she was walking and back with the rest of the flock. Good luck!!

We had her in the house for 2 weeks, she was eating and drinking well and was being supplemented with extra vitamins as well. She was being taken outside daily. A few days in she started moving about again. Within the 1st week she was seemingly back to normal. My 17yo son put her back out in the coop with our other 5 chickens. Everything seemed okay. We went back out the next morning and she was hiding under their ramp. We took her out and sat her in the grass away from the other chickens. She started acting really odd and breathing funny (like we would refer to in the medical field as agonal breathing.) She would not eat or drink and was very lethargic. Over the course of 1 hour of having her out of the coop, she would no longer lift her head and was falling over on her side. Sadly, as my husbands favorite girl, he took her out of her misery. I am still not sure what precipitated the whole situation or how she seemed to go from doing so well to doing so poor in such a very short time frame. There are many possible scenarios. It was a sad day. Our poor Claire is no longer suffering. RIP
