One of my 13 hens has her comb and her floppy little waddles! I am so proud! My girls are growing up. This girl was a bit older than her sisters when I bought them, so I figured that she would be the first to start laying. I got the Golden Comets mid-March, and they lived in my washroom until we got the coop built - (I had that a bit backwards, yes), so I figure that they are about 4 1/2 months old. I wonder when they will start laying?

They will start at 6 months!:wee You're almost there! :yesss:Gooooood luck! Getting first eggs are SOOO exciting! :thumbsup

Not necessarily at 6 months. That’s 26ish weeks, I’ve heard plenty of stories of chickens laying at 16 weeks, it’s actually very common for Golden comets to lay that early! Good luck with your flock!!!
:ya

Onset of lay for most breeds is between 18-26 weeks.
Golden Comets are high production hybrids and likely to start earlier in that range.

Here's some tips and trick to tell .....

FYI.....semantics, maybe, but can be important communication terms when discussing chicken behavior.
Female chickens are called pullets until one year of age, then they are called hens.
Male chickens are called cockerels until one year of age, then they are called cocks(or cockbirds or roosters).
Age in weeks or months is always a good thing to note.
