My Hens Attacked Their Rooster

I came home this afternoon to find my rooster in fairly bad shape. My boyfriend said he was attacked by his 8 hens. They had torn out most of his tail and rear feathers and he was bleeding quite a bit. I found a pecked out egg in the coop and we do have one broody (albeit very young hen), but I'm not certain he is the culprit. The entire flock is only 6 months old and in the hens defense, he is not a gentle rooster with his ladies. Any ideas on why this happened or if they'll accept him again? I have him isolated to recover at the moment.

Sounds like the girls are standing up for themselves and demanding better treatment!

Hahahaha..... funny posts!!!

Sorry for your roo and I do hope he recovers. Watch who he treats with kid gloves when he's re-established and that's probably your culprit.

FYI - The hens jumped my rooster again and tore him up pretty good. I believe this week he will be in the pot, and I'll give another rooster chance. Would still love to hear from anyone who may have had this happen in their flock.

i just wonder if there is something wrong with him, as they will attack an ill flockmate? or possibly resenting his roughness? i know a flock will 'train' their rooster
