My hens Bullying my rooster

I have bought few chicks early Feb 2019, they all grow up I got rid of extra roosters and kept one, everything was going great, my rooster no aggressive but doing his job... all of sudden hens started attacking him since he is never attacked them before .. to the point that he is wobbly and bleeding from his head.. I separated him . Any help as of why this happened, my thoughts the following ( correct me if I’m wrong):
1- I do have 60 hens to one rooster not the best situation but egg fertility not my concern.
2- rooster too nice hens attacked because he never chased them away.
3- he started showing signs of sickness and hens attacks the weaker ones ,( yet google say roosters are outside the hens ranking).
4- I have no idea..

He could be sick.
How old is he?
How much space do they have?
Dimensions and pics might help here.
Can he get away from them?

The main causes for henpecking is boredom and overcrowding. Roosters technically outrank hens, but if the hens are older or more dominant they may attack roosters.
