I am new to chickens, we have 5 laying hens and twelve 6 week old pullets, the hens have stopped roosting in the coop at night. They are still laying in there but huddle up in a corner of the run and sleep there. We live in southern Louisiana and the weather is beginning to get hot, it's been averaging in the 70's at night. We thought maybe that was why they have begun sleeping outside. Any thoughts?

I have 4 laying hens here in western NC. My girls have stopped roosting in the coop too. They've been roosting outside in their run for the past month. Like yours, mine still lay in the nestbox. I simply secured my run a bit more to keep everything out. I cut a branch off of a tree in the backyard with about a 1 inch diameter and made them a roost to get them up off the ground at night. They seem to be happier sleeping outside and now they're just as safe as if they were inside the coop, so I guess I'm OK with it too.
