Our two best and only laying hens have suddenly stopped.

I can only think it is because we sold one of the others, a frizzle who was causing havoc with the other hens. The frizzle was who they first shared the coop with.

Could this cause enough stress to stop them laying do you think? Even though the coop is a much calmer place since she has gone!!

Thanks :D

Is it super hot where you are? Lots of people are experiencing low egg production right now, including me because of the heat. I just lost my buff orp in my avatar, and I wonder if my other hens even notice if Annie is gone (?) Chickens are weird, sometimes they seem about as sharp as a marble and then sometimes they can really figure things out. I think they are secretly aliens laughing at all of us.

I agree that the Weather extremes can have a big effect on productivity. I m not sure what age your birds are ?? They may be getting ready to molt or feeling broody.
I move my birds around quite a bit removing and adding other birds and I have never observed any issues. Birds are funny and they do have Favorite Friends. I would give them a couple days and watch their behavior...

I have 8 pullet/hens. I hit the max on Sun with 8 eggs. Now for two days just 5 eggs. I'm beating my brain trying to figure out what I changed that made the difference. they are free range the whole summer. And it's been cooler for the last few days, finally. If they could only talk.
