My hen 2-3 years old and I just noticed this tonight. Is she just molting? It's been like this for a while now..at least a month or two. Acting normal and eating well. not sure if she's laying, she lays outside of the coop

You're right, that is weird. My initial thought is that her stomach/ butt are scraping on something when she roosts or lays, because of the feather loss and (seemingly) agitated skin. If she's laying outside of the coop, is it possible she's doing it somewhere either very bristly and uncomfortable or on something she could be allergic to? Any sort of harmful flora? If there's any poison ivy or something along those lines that could be it too.
It is also possible that she's just molting, if only because the most notable feather loss is along the featherless tracts to begin with. I'm really interested to hear what others think about this. It's great that she's otherwise healthy, though.

(Also, I love this thread title )

No poison ivy, but we have a punch of cactus down by our tank that they wonder around by. We had 6 roosters and she seemed to be the favorite of all of them..... But we got rid of them. We kept our one silkie rooster who is scared of all the hens haha
