My hens are 14 weeks old. Yesterday, my fav girl laid her first egg - in the nesting box. A little earlier than I expected, but it was a perfect egg. I immediately made oyster shell available to them and set up their nesting boxes so they'd be comfortable. By this afternoon, she had not laid another egg, but seemed fine. When I went to check on them this evening she was quite and alone. Not like her at all - she is the first one to come to me and is very vocal. I could see she was having trouble laying. I feared she may be egg bound but she then laid an egg in front of me in the pen. It was very soft and one of the other birds immediately pecked at it and I had to discard it right away. She is now just standing, staring and not herself. Any ideas? I am extremely worried about her. She has been perfectly fine up until tonight. Please help. Thank you!

Pullets first eggs are commonly abnormal. They might not have a shell, small, double yolker. As for her behaviour, put some sugar in her water and that might help her. Check her poo for any abnormalities like blood, might be green or quite watery.

I happened to feel her crop when I picked her up. It was swishy. Sour crop maybe? I will check her in the morning. If she is the same I will try to make her vomit and then separate her from the flock. Poor girl, she is such a love. Thank you for your advise.
