My hens won't incubate their eggs.

Hi there.

I'm a newbie.

My chickens run around my yard free.

The other day my two hens started lying eggs for the first time.

The first one I found broken because Daisy laid it at night from 1.5mts high.

Next day she was very excited and nervous and running all around the countertops in the kitchen. At some point I put a piece of fabric on the Kitchen table --that seemed to be her place of choice-- and she laid the egg there. As soon as she did she left. She has done that five more times. Macy is behaving the same.

My questions:

1. How do I get for them to incubate the eggs?
2. If I buy a basket and put inside some coconut fiber and place it somewhere else, will they use that new place to lay or they've chosen the kitchen table and I should put the basket there?
3. Any other piece of advice apart from answers to my questions are more thatn welcome.

Thanks in advance.

First.....
Do you have a rooster?
If not the eggs cannot ever hatch.

Second.....
A broody hen (one that has the hormones kicking in that say to incubate the eggs) is not common in very many breeds these days.
What breed are your birds?

Third.....
Very new layers are not usually broody even in breeds known to go broody.

Yes I do have a rooster.

I do not know about chickens but I do know a bit of biology.

I asked here and people couldn't tell for sure but they think Daisy is a non-crested Silkie and Macy a Sumatra. You can see their pics on this thread:

Ok, I see. I didn't know that.

Can I eat those eggs?
