My housing auth is trying to trap chickens

We have wild bantam chicken in our neighborhood, the flock is about 8 adults now. They have been here for six years in our town and just now my housing auth is being a real ___k when it comes to them. They have erected a chicken wire pen with nails in one side of a board, in my housing units backyard. I used to feed them. The chickens are not a threat to the property but are "keeping people awake now" and that is their reason for trying to remove them. I suspect they intend to slaughter them. That is animal cruelty. I have reported to animal control and police about this issue. Is there anything you all could think of that I could do to get this nonsense stopped? Chickens are not going to come to the pen, or get in the pen, they are not stupid. I was recommended to tell local police etc if I saw harm or slaughter to any animal on the property. I am almost homeless due to this issue. I am not sure what else I can do? Animal control is "not worried about the chickens right now but will some day attempt to rehouse them". I am not sure what else I can try. I don't want to see them slaughtered as I love the chickens but I can not get a protective order or waiver. I am severing my lease with this housing authority soon as I can. I was told not to feed them anymore, by my land management, all of a sudden for no reason. I can not even give them water. Is there any activist places I can write too that have resources that can help?

You're GREAT for trying to Change something !

Unfortunately, the Default Setting in the US towards wild animals is, Terrible Cruelty.

Where I live, is like Yellowstone, 70 square miles of forest. (vs. Yellowstone 3400+ square miles).

When people go to Yellowstone, it would obviously be Very Bad Manners to just start killing all the local wildlife.

What people do in Oregon is to buy homes on a creek - which is where all the animals go.

Of course, their home is HABITAT for animals. e.g. the Rats.

So they poison the rats.

Then the possums and skunks eat the dead poisoned rats - and get poisoned themselves.

When I moved in and the area was less populated, seeing families of skunks around the house - every morning - was normal.

In 2020, a more Materialistic, less nature-oriented neighbor used poison to deal with the rats in their house 100 yards from mine.

Haven't seen a Skunk since.

The other behavior that I observe is, well for example it would become very obvious if I stood up at a county meeting or rifle club meeting, to talk about the effect of lead bullets on wildlife, including hawks falcons eagles etc.

The locals are adamant that they have the "right" to poison the local countryside with dead rats that are seeded with poison and lead.

People shoot ground squirrels just for "fun", not for food like on that one TV show.

If any wildlife eats the lead in the process of eating the dead animal, they get very sick too.

One of the local guys that is sort of one of my firearms instructors, goes to Idaho regularly to shoot coyotes for fun - with lead bullets.

"Western Man" (and Western women) seem hell-bent on destroying the local, well, everything.

I think the original Earth First folks were on to something.

I like the idea of you catching them. I'm surprised a dog or cat hasn't caught them. Good luck with it!
