After getting tired of "something" stealing the grain at night I bought a Tasco Game Camera at Walmart for $50 and set it up in the coop last night to find out what it was and where it was getting in. The camera worked great and the images taken by the camera show a Raccoon entering the coop around 10:30pm and staying there most of the night. He, unfortunately, killed one of the chickens and while that occurred outside of the picture viewing frame, the camera did take pictures of him trying to leave the coop with the chicken (but apparently the hole in the chicken wire was too small for him to take the bird with him, though he spent a few minutes trying!) I came out to the coop this morning to see the chicken carcass stuck in the chicken wire. I feel bad for the bird, but the pictures were educational and I will secure the coop tonight with new wire. The hole in the chicken wire was pretty small, but the coon still managed to enlarge it and squeeze through...

wow that is a good camera! Most only take black and white pics. A coon can get through any hole as long as it can get its head through. Chicken wire is really easy for coons to pull back I would recomend getting some welded wire to go over the chicken wire.

Sorry about the hen you lost, but at least you figured it out!

Thanks, I will be reinforcing the chicken wire today with better wire. It was really surprising to see that he could get through such a small hole.

So how did he get back out if chicken was stuck in wire? I am using 1/2in hardware cloth over my entire run 9x16. Roof too.

Get Hardware Cloth to cover your entire coop. That'll keep those stupid coons out. And try to get a LGD to guard your chickens.

My Great Pyr. Koda fought and chased a coon out of the barn the other week. I saw her fight it in my flashlight beam.

Never want to see something like that again. Horrible.

Those are some good pics. Is the area lit at night because it looks like daytime.
