My incubation with shipped eggs that traveled from USA to Europe

Ok, i wanted to tell our story.
With a help of my friend i had a great opportunity to get my hands on my dream breed, silkies. And to be specific, american silkie bantam.
I breed silkies here in Europe, FI and we only have UK standard birds here.

Long story short, i ended up ordering dozen of silkie eggs from VA and they were shipped to my friend to FL.
After that she flew to Amsterdam and finally to Finland. 5800 miles in total for the eggs.

For my surprise all the eggs were in perfect condition and air cells looking fine.
I let them rest for 24h and started bator 20 days ago.




11 of the 12 eggs were fertile and only 1 clear. About at day 10 there was 1 quitter so the total was 10 fertile and lively embryos!!

Today we are on day 20 and i heard first peeps few hours ago, 10 eggs still alive and going strong.

I think i have had extremely good luck so far, this is my dream come true. Or at least i hope it will be.

I'm using Brinsea Octagon 20 ECO and have had great hatches with it. First 3 hatches 100% and after that 95%!

I'll keep you posted. Chicks should hatch soon!

That's amazing. Congratulations. Just shipping the eggs to Florida would be an issue but then I assume they went another 3 days before being incubated. So the eggs had to be at least a week old. This time of year, rooster fertility can be down too.

Yes, the eggs were posted on Tuesday and i got them next Monday (!) and after 24 h resting started the incubator at Tuesday.
They looked fresh, air cells were small. Out of 10 eggs there are 2 saddle shaped air cells but there is movement still.

Now there are 2 pipped and rest are moving and i hear a lot of chirping.. I will keep you updated.

Being wrapped with plastic probably kept the air cells small.

Day 21 and 7 of 10 has hatched. 3 eggs left , 2 pipped and one soon pipping. I could not be more happy
