Hi everyone,

Im Lucy, and I don’t own any chickens! But I have 4 haki Campbell ducks. I am new to being a duck mum!

It all started with an incubator and 6 duck eggs in summer 2020, of which only 1 egg turned out to be fertile, and out hatched my Daisy. We bonded straight away, and is it was lockdown spent everyday together whilst I worked from home, but she was very demanding and would cry if she couldn’t see me, so we quickly bought 2 more ducklings (Daphne and Delilah) for company, as they all grew up, we discovered the 2 new ducks were drakes! (Boy ducks - now Daffy and Derick), and when I tried rehoming one or both of them, we had a bird flu outbreak (in the UK), so no one would take any new birds into their flock, and no one was selling ducks either. Luckily I was home all the time, and could watch / hear them, so would run outside and split up any bad behaviour. Then after a while adopted 2 more females (Jemima and Puddles), it was still too much, so have rehomed Derick (the alpha duck).
I love watching them waddle around, fight over worms and dip in the pond. I sometimes bring Daisy inside for a cuddle and a bath. I also have a black Labrador, who has started to eat the duck poo! Anyone else’s dog do this?! Other than animals it’s just me and my boyfriend living here and we are renovating so hopefully have a nice new duck enclosure soon! I joined back yard chickens as I wanted to find answers for my unwell duck, so I found BYC just from a Google search.
I’ll attach some pictures too ☺️

Looks like your ducks have a pretty sweet life! They're lovely and appear quite happy in their surroundings. LOVE the one of the duck balancing on one foot!

When I picked my first four runner ducklings, three turned out to be drakes. Amazingly, they got along fine --but I HAD to add females because Quinn was getting way too much romance for her own good. Glad you could work out the right ratio for your ducks.

Welcome to BYC, Lucy!
