(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I got my first flock this year at the end of the March.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I currently have 6, but soon to be 5.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I have two Buff Orpington pullets, two Cinnamon Queen pullets, one Speckled Sussex cockerel, and one Starlight Green Egger cockerel. I bought the Speckled Sussex knowing he was a cockerel but I thought the Starlight Green Egger was a pullet when I bought him. When I thought he was a pullet I was really excited about having pretty eggs. So naturally I was disappointed when he started looking like a cockerel. But now that they're almost 11 weeks old he is my favorite of all six. So I'm going to get rid of the Speckled Sussex soon.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I am looking forward to the eggs and eventually hatching them. I love spending time with them and watching them. Before I got them I wanted ducks more but it seemed that chickens would be easier to start with. Now that I have them I'm obsessed, they're so fun. I am also really excited for my son to grow up around them and I'm planning on hatching them with him when he gets older. He already loves sitting and watching them with me.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I enjoy baking, crocheting, candle making, gardening, ice skating, ice hockey (although I haven't played since my son was born in October.) and reading.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm a stay at home mom to my son. I live with him and my boyfriend. We have a chihuahua/dachshund and four outdoor cats. I am also working on my German B.S.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I read a lot of different threads when I was preparing for bringing my chicks home and I finally decided to join.
