My kids want ducks.

I raise runner ducks and love them. They do not require as much water as the others and they eat bugs, larvae out of water and they are hilarious to watch. They are pretty quiet and don't fly. You get lots of eggs, too. I can always send you eggs if you are interested, or babies when I have them in a week or so.

I also love muscovies!!! They can fly and roost and are quiet. Love those "mohawks" and wagging tails. Our muscovy follows my husband around during feeding time to supervise that everyone is fed the proper amount. He is beautiful and loves to sit on top of a huge pile of sand like he owns the place.

Those are my two choices.

One more vote for muscovy as pet ducks. My little DD who was two at the time would wrangle them and pick them up last year all the time. I wont let her do it right now because i got a broody hen and the drake is a bit grumpy. But i will let them keep 2-3 females and take the rest down to the auction. My oldest one helped me a lot with the ducks so she gets to buy a new bike with the money made.
