My king quail sitting on her eggs:)

Hey guys, the first time I ever candled them all was when they were all smal. I took out four that had nothing in them. When I candled them yesterday, they were dark inside. There was one though that must have died between when I checked them. I'm not sure how old they are and I don't have an incubator

but yeah I'll take two out to freeze

If they all seem to be at the same stage of incubation I'd leave them as she must be doing ok if they all look the same, other than the one that terminated early (which could've been from any number of things). My girl is sitting on 7 eggs quite easily. How many has your girl got? Does she seem to be covering them all usually when you check on her? You could've just caught her 'mid rearrange' when you took her photo.

I grabbed two of our girls eggs to candle today (just out of interest) while she was having a break and both looked good. We have a week to go for ours. They are our daughter's quail and she named her pair Matilda and Marvin.

hey:) yeah she has nine eggs now. What she seems to do is she makes sort of a ring around herself with the eggs and then she sits in the middle of them. In not sure how old mine are tho:/ where I live, it's really hot and humid so I think that's helping. Also your daughters quails have really cute names:) mine are Coco and Milo which is the male. I also have a grey female named Silver:)

Here are our Marvin and Matilda when they first came home. I have no idea what kind of babies we will end up with but our daughter is hoping for a silver one she can call Silva. I couldn't believe how quickly Matilda got back to laying when she first came home. The breeder we got her off let our daughter (who loves anything yellow or gold) have Matilda who is about 18 months old. We'd been going there for a pair of silvers. At the time Matilda had one newly hatched chick which the breeder put with another hen's brood so it got to have brothers and sisters and we could take Matilda home with us. I think it was about 5 days later she started laying again and she quickly built up a clutch of eggs and started sitting.

I like your quails names too. Especially Milo.

Our weather was hot and horribly humid too but today it's cold and windy, though it's supposed to warm up again by Wednesday when our eggs are due to hatch. Your eggs must be close if they are looking dark inside. Any progress?

Aw cute:)sorry I haven't replied but our internet wasn't working but yeah they'll probably be a mix and few will be normal coloured. One has hatched to day and it's a light yellow colour and more are on the way. It must of hatched early this morning. Yeah when we first got ours it was in winter so it took a while for them to start laying

a broody hen may accept them? It works for me. My bantams, light sussex and brown shavers all makr excellent incubators. If yo have broody hens, wrap the eggs in rags and put them under. When they hatch you could put them back.
