my largest chicken is acting strange...please help

Tina was hovering in the corner of the run when I went out to put them to bed tonight. And now she is in the corner of the hen house, blinking a lot and it seems as if she is trying to lay an egg. She already produced an egg today, so I think something is wrong. Her energy seems low.

How old is Tina? And how long has she been laying eggs? When my chickens first started laying they had all kinds of problems. Soft shell, no shell and sometimes laying a regular and then a soft shelled egg on the same day. One hen laid 3 no shell (just the yolk) eggs in one day. They were sometimes very lethargic and wouldn't eat for a little while but they grew out of this. Thank goodness. When chickens first start to lay eggs it takes a little while for their bodies to get it right, I hope your hen is doing ok??

She is almost a year old. She's been laying regularly since around July. I thought it may be an unusual egg that she is trying to lay. She looks constipated.

Is Tina doing any better today? Whenever I thought my chickens might be constipated I would gave them a watermelon to eat. Cleans them right out or have you tried to give her some olive oil? Mix this with a little bit of food and this also will get things moving. If this doesn't help you might want to re post this in the Emergencies/Diseases section. Someone with more knowledge maybe of more help. Good luck.

Thanks so much. She seems better. She never laid her egg, but she is eating and drinking and moving around normally. We are in the middle of the blizzard, so they are all warm in the hen house.
