Thank you Gardener. She's traveled a much harder road with me. I like to tell how before we'd started dating how I was dating her roommate. My car broke down outside the house they shared in the winter. There had been a storm, lines were down so I had to walk to my big brothers to get help. The roads weren't plowed neither. She asked her roommate if she was going to go with me and when she told her no, she said "I'll go". We walked must have been 2 or 3 miles in knee deep snow. I don't know why she did it, but I'm glad she did.

Phil, I didn't say I've never taken pain killers. I said I didn't need them after my tooth extraction. Yes, I've got a cabinet with varying strengths of pain killers. The chemo used for my breast cancer caused severe neuropathy in my feet. I could not have made it through a day or night without some serious pain relief. As the neuropathy progressed, the doctor increased the strength. I asked about doubling up on the strength I was already taking, and the doctor said no, the main ingredient is mixed with an nsaid, and doubling the dose would double the nsaid. I was to take the stronger dose instead.

It takes time, but the neuropathy does decrease after treatment, but never completely goes away. Sometimes weather changes will trigger a flare up. The degree of pain from the flare up varies, so I dose accordingly.

That wasn't meant to be a crass statement.... Although I was tired when I wrote it.
I'm in so much pain much of the time. So I can get crabby.... But there are so many people that demonize pain killer and I've even heard them want to make it illegal to prescribe them for all but cancer patients..... If it came to that i'd have to do something.....I barely have a life now.

I get neuropathy in my feet from diabetes......I got me A1C under control..... But it's going up a little lately.

Absolutely true and I'm so sorry for all you go through, you don't mention it (or at least I've not seen it), just soldier on.

But I think the problem with opioids is they have been given out almost like candy. Having an operation? You might have some pain after, here is a month supply of highly addictive pain killers. We've never had oxycodone in the house. For wisdom teeth the girls were given Tylenol 3. Same with DD2 when she broke her arm and shoved the ball up into her shoulder socket. It was the ENT that did her ear last Nov that gave her the oxycodone prescription that we did not fill. I expect to do the same when she has her other ear worked on. Minimally I will tell him not to write it for more than a couple of pills so we have it on hand if she needs something stronger than Advil and Tylenol. The pharmacy can't give you 2 if the prescription says 20.

I am physically addicted to them...... But after about 15 years that's to be expected.

I was physically addicted to Prednisone to.....I just quit taking that for my lungs. Hoping I can stay off them for a while...... But they really do help with pain too.....

Bruce, I may be wrong, but I believe the pharmacy can fill less than the entire amount. @superchemicalgirl , can you set us straight on this question?

I've gotten partial fills before.... Never really thought about it though...

bruce, both oxycodone, and Tylenol 3 are opioids. I am not convinced that they're passed out like candy. That's hype. There are a LOT of meth heads, and the doctors don't pass meth out to their patients.

No they go over my nieghbors house....

You used to be able to get a partial and relinquish your rights to anything remaining .however in the era of digital signature required my pharmacy can no longer edit RX and they have to go back to provider for any change. Not sure what all the other pharmacies do .

I had to think about it but it was a long time ago that I did get a partial fill..... Not something I asked for very often....

I *think* some people are somehow predisposed to chemical addiction and some aren't. Personally I hated narcotics the few times I have had them. Make me feel like my brain is floating outside my head. It has been years since I've taken one, I think it was Percocet (Oxycodone and acetaminophen). So I'm with you, I don't get the "attraction".
