Oh Al, I had no idea. I cant tell you how sorry I am your family is going thru all of this! The loss, the chaos, the exorbitant plane tickets, trying to scramble to find clothes for the kids, sleeping on floors... etc.

I just went thru a similar situation with my dad at the being of the year. We wanted to put an obit in the paper where my had dad spent most of his life & also in the paper where he'd lived the past 7+ years. I wrote the obit myself. It wasn't easy. How do you sum up a mans life in one paragraph? In the end we weren't able to post the obit anywhere because it was going to cost hundreds of dollars. My family is pretty big & they decided that if everyone posted the obit on FB it would probably be seen quicker & farther than in any newspaper. I wasn't excited by this, but It worked. Its just a thought in case you get in a pinch an need an alternative.

Lastly Al, your boys never cease to amaze me! They are always so sweet & compliant & seem to man up to whatever is thrown their way. I just love your family & I hope you can all find some peace through this tragedy. Many of these my friend

Well....

he died this morning, 4:30 am Houston time.

I had stayed with him until 2am, then my mom took over.

We got to bathe, clean, anoint and dress him.

Just sitting here now, waiting for my sis to show up and take over.

We did bare bones funeral home.... just a place to keep the body cold.

We bathed and dressed my dad, supplied the coffin.

So yeah, we are doing everything. I got the 2 obits off, so that is done.

My boys said no, no hotel room, they are happy on the floor.

Kid #3 has been spending all of his time fixing my mom's second car. He has it working, and is now working on cosmetic stuff on the car (fallen off door panel etc. ). My eldest is coraling the hoard of my sister's kids, and keeping them fed.

So thank you again!

I ran my mom around today... she needed new shoes and a belt, a set of black clothes for my older sister who is showing up very late the night before the funeral, pen and funeral guest book and 200 copies of the service made. (and no, she did not want to delegate.... she wanted to be there and help pick). And yes, the church has copies of the funeral service.... but my dad wanted a slightly different version.... So there we are.

My mom said that she will fall apart on Thursday ..... all scheduled.

by the way, I also got 2 of the best photos of my dad printed out.

the group shot is with my dad, mom, and older sis.

I have been making sure that she eats and drinks, and there we are.

I remember so well how looking at old photos of Austin and Linda helped bring a few smiles to two very bleak times in my life. Your dad had a kind smile. He's looking down, so proud of his family.
